About the instructor

The instructor has practiced WT intensively for over 20 years, beginning in Bristol 2001 as a member of the European WingTsun Organisation (EWTO) under Sifu Ron Butler, who trained under Master Heinrich Pfaff at the EWTO HQ in Germany. In 2004 he moved to London and spent a year with the GB branch of the EWTO, under former UK Chief Instructor Andrew Cameron. Since 2005 he has trained under Master Tam Yiu Ming, a former instructor at the International WingTsun Association (IWTA) in Hong Kong who moved to London to found the Tam Yiu Ming Wing Tjun Kung-Fu Academy in 1999. In 2012 he became the first student in London to achieve the 2nd Technician (Instructor) grade under Master Tam; in 2022 he was awarded 5th Technician grade. After completing a biochemistry BSc at Imperial College in 2000 and PhD in cardiovascular gene therapy at the Bristol Heart Institute, Emmanuel has spent most his professional career as a CFA-chartered pharmaceutical equity analyst. To contact the instructor please click here.

About this website and LondonWT

LondonWT is a website and school for those interested in self-defence and the WT system of hand-to-hand combat, which serves as a practical system of self-defence. The WT in LondonWT stands for Wing Tsun (also spelled Wing Tjun or Wing Chun), a form of Chinese Kung-Fu.

All content and photography on this website are copyright and authors’ own unless otherwise specified; see T&Cs for further details.

Disclaimer: This site refers principally to unarmed self-defence and takes for granted all reasonable steps have been taken to avoid a physical confrontation. This is not only because violence should be avoided where possible, but because withdrawing will usually be preferable to engaging in a no-rules fight whose outcome will likely result in injury to at least one party. This is particularly the case if weapons are involved: there is no way to reliably defend against any competent attack with a bladed weapon (refer to this for some prudent advice). This site also deals minimally with the psychological aspects of combat, which are at least as important as any knowledge of techniques in determining the outcome of any unscripted fight.
